I read on a local news website that the city wants to try to sell these vacant homes to developers for a dollar. Why? Why do they deserve this, don't they have enough money/investments as it is?
I think that we should model a program based on Homes Not Jails, so we can help the people that really need it. There are abandoned homes all over the city, some of which could be habitable with slight repairs. It's not hard to freeze to death on the streets of Syracuse when you're homeless, yet these properties remain unused. I understand that some of these properties that are in severe disrepair are an eyesore, and a potential breeding ground for criminal activity. Instead of tearing them all down or handing them off to people that don't care about/need the place, why not help those that need help?

Congrats to SUN for never giving up and
winning the long battle to get
crime-magnet AShack demolished.
Getting new homes, garden, etc. in the 'hood
will make the area livable, as it once was.
Perhaps 'hood leaders on the northside and East Syracuse can take another lesson from SUN --like convincing the Feds to force forfeiture and turnover the property to City Hall for development.
